Why We Need The RESPECT Quotient
Trust is the starting point of the more critical leadership competency - respect. Over the coming weeks I will describe The RESPECT Quotient and why it is a crucial leadership competency, especially in these times of great divides. We are divided politically, ideologically, religiously, etc.

Why We Need The RESPECT Quotient™
Respect gets short-changed. Like trust, it's assumed. We rarely unpack what it takes for one individual to respect another.
In working with C-suite leaders, I often find the following talk track when they speak of their peers...
👌 Of course, we trust each other.
🍞We often break bread together--go out to dinner/drinks/lunch.
🏌️We golf together.
🤼 Our kids are in the same (fill in the activity) together.
😁 We are "totally" in sync.
I respect their perspective. And as a curious learner, I ask a few warm-up questions:
How often do you share what you are REALLY thinking about a challenging situation?
Do you go direct or seek others' perspectives before speaking with the other?
How often do you disagree AND address it right away?
Then, I started to go below the water level. Questions such as...
Have you shared your core values, the deal-breaker ones?
How often do you seek to understand each other without needing to solve a problem?
Do you connect without an agenda and beyond the "back-to-back" meetings?
Trust is the starting point of the more critical leadership competency - respect. Over the coming weeks I will describe The RESPECT Quotient™ and why it is a crucial leadership competency, especially in these times of great divides. We are divided politically, ideologically, religiously, etc. etc.
What if we focused on how to respect each other? Respect the humanity of every person. They do not seek to change their perspective or get stuck in the "agree to disagree" but dare to engage in challenging conversations. Dare to get messy to solve core business challenges that perhaps are stuck in leaders digging in on their perspective.
This is a courageous journey. For those who will take this journey to heart, the outcomes are guaranteed to create a competitive advantage and an authentic growth culture for organizations that make it a core competency.
I share one of my favorite data points in this first video in a series. Please watch it. Add your perspective in the comments. Share this with others. Let's engage and learn together.
